- Understand how the new ASQA’s audit model will affect RTOs during 2017 – ASQA’s commissioner the Hon Michael Lavarch will explain ASQA’s new audit model, and how a much stronger focus will be placed on the provider’s actual practices and behaviours. He will also explain the other sources of data the regulator will use during an audit. You will gain insightful information required to update your quality systems for 2017.
- Establish and manage compliance – Managing compliance is about managing performance. Compliance is not a back end process, it must be integrated to the RTO’s operations. - How to work effectively as a dual provider (VET – Higher Education)? – Half of higher education providers offer VET courses as well. TEQSA’s CEO, Anthony McClaran, will identify the challenges a growing number of providers face. He will give an outline of TEQSA’s responses, drawing on experience here in Australia and internationally, place the issue in the context of the new HE Standards Framework, and the continuing evolution of the risk-based approach to quality assurance.
- Manage trainers and assessors – Marc Ratcliffe (CEO of MRWED) will provide practical examples to assist RTOs track the vocational competencies of their personnel as well as demonstrate how to implement approaches that build vocational competence in-house.
- Understand the VET provider’s market – Dr Patrick Korbel and Dr Josie Misko (senior researchers at NCVER) will present a snapshot of the current VET market, and will provide insightful information about VET market trends based on research done over the last two decades.
- Understand Australian funding models – Government funding provides more than 80% of VET training dollars in Australia. In a rapidly changing scenario, understanding trends and potential scenarios will help managers to adopt a more proactive approach to funding. Jonathan Chew () will explain directions in relation to the contractual requirements of VET FEE HELP and quality indicators. Jonathan’s presentation will put specific focus on the implications, opportunities and risks that VET managers and leaders will need to consider when planning for the future and risk management.
- The future of the TAE training package – The training and education package is a key part of the Australian VET system. Tim Rawlings (Head of Training Product Development for PwC’s Skills for Australia) and Jodi Schmidt (Chair of Education Sector IRC) will explain the future of the TAE training package.
- Consumer law and Copyright regulations – Senior lawyer Virginia Morrison will explain the educational statutory licence administered by the Copyright Agency, and how this can help RTOs comply with copyright law. Experienced and successful VET practitioner Nic Thomas will discuss issues with consumer law and how this relates to the processes to recruit students. Nic will explore practical methods that you can implement to build a sustainable, compliant and ethical plan to boost your business.
- The Enterprise RTO’s world – Should an Enterprise RTO (ERTO) be treated in the same way as private or public providers regarding compliance? Chris Butler (ERTOA President) will discuss and present ERTOA’s approach to compliance that links the ERTO to the enterprise training system and in turn the corporate strategies.
