Workcover Code of conduct for RTOs

VETAB's Board considers the "Code of Conduct for registered training organisations", developed by Workcover NSW, are equally relevant to all RTOs and approved providers in training and education activities more generally.

The "Code" has been developed in accordance with the principles of ethical decision-making:

Respect for the law

Respect for the system of government

Respect for the community and other people
Respect for the community and other people
Diligence
Efficiency
Accountability

and by considering the following issues:

Is the action/decision lawful?

Is the action/decision consistent with the spirit and intent of the RTOs Conditions of Approval?

What are the consequences of the action/decision for the public, for VETAB and for the integrity of the RTO?

RTOs must take all relevant facts into consideration when making a decision and must not consider irrelevant facts.

Services must be efficiently organised to minimise disruption and avoid unnecessary costs to clients and their workplaces.

All services must be delivered to the performance standards described in the RTO's Conditions of Approval and in line with the standards of professionalism expected of RTOs.

The DET Statement of Business Ethics

VETAB's Board considers the values set out by DET, for its staff in relation to the provision of public education and training services, are equally relevant to all RTOs and approved providers whether they be engaged in public education and training or private education and training.

The NSW Department of Education and Training ("DET") has said in its Statement of Business Ethics:

The values that underpin the DET include fairness, respect, integrity and responsibility. These values are demonstrated by DET by:

providing quality services to public education and training, whether in the
classroom, the office or the community;

being consistently honest, trustworthy and accountable;

being courteous and responsive in dealing with others;
being committed to social justice by opposing prejudice, injustice and
dishonesty;
making decisions that are procedurally fair to people and which avoid
discrimination, for example, on grounds such as gender, race, religion and
culture;
promoting dignity and respect by avoiding behaviour which is, or might
reasonably be perceived as, harassing, bullying or intimidating;
maintaining professional relationships with students; parents and carers
colleagues, and business partners;
working collaboratively with colleagues to reach our common goals;
